A very useful feature of Stata is the dialog boxes, especially with commands that have several alternative options or subcommands, such as the graphics commands. However, to get to those nice dialog boxes through the drop-down menus is sometimes pretty hard. If you know the command name that you wish to use (e.g. scatter ), though, you san simply type:

db scatter

in the Stata command interface and the dialog window will come up. This is a really nice way to save some time while figuring out Stata’s syntax, although it sometimes fosters “irresponsibility”, since it is really easy to end up doing something for which you do not understand the statistical basis.
